In a whirlwind of roster moves, the Denver Broncos are shaking things up as they prepare for the upcoming season. The team is looking to trade receiver Tim Patrick, running back Samaje Perine, and punter Trenton Gill before ultimately cutting them from the roster, according to Mike Klis of 9News.
The Broncos didn’t stop there, as they officially released defensive tackle Angelo Blackson, receiver Phillip Dorsett, and inside linebacker Andre Smith on Monday. In addition to these cuts, they also waived defensive back Omar Brown, cornerback Art Green, cornerback Kaleb Hayes, offensive guard Oliver Jervis, and inside linebacker Alec Mock.
With all these moves, Denver’s active roster now stands at 83 players, including linebacker Drew Sanders and safety Delarrin Turner-Yell. These two players are currently on the active/physically unable to perform list, but despite their status, they still count toward the team’s current 90-player limit.
Dorsett, who appeared in two games for the Broncos last season without catching a pass, brings a wealth of experience to the table. With 151 catches for 2,001 yards and 12 touchdowns in 92 games across various teams, including the Colts, Patriots, Jaguars, Seahawks, and Texans, Dorsett’s presence will be missed on the field.
Blackson, who signed as a free agent in April after a stint with the Jaguars, has also played for the Titans, Texans, Cardinals, and Bears. His versatile play and experience will surely be felt on the defensive line.
As for Smith, who signed with the team in June after bouncing around the league with the Panthers, Bills, Titans, and Falcons since being a seventh-round pick in 2018, his departure marks the end of a brief stint with the Broncos.
Overall, these roster moves signal a new direction for the Denver Broncos as they gear up for the upcoming season. With changes in key positions, the team is poised to make a statement on the field and show that they are a force to be reckoned with in the NFL.
