In a stunning turn of events, former New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas remains without a team as a free agent. Despite speculation that he may sign a deal in the near future, it has been confirmed that he will not be suiting up for any team in Week 1 of the upcoming NFL season.
The news of Thomas’ suspension for one game was delivered by the NFL, as reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Media. This disciplinary action falls under the league’s Personal Conduct Policy, signaling a serious offense on Thomas’ part.
The suspension stems from an incident that took place back in November 2023, where Thomas was arrested for simple battery and criminal mischief. Reports indicate that Thomas was involved in a troubling altercation where he allegedly threw a brick at the windshield of a construction worker’s truck in his own neighborhood. Additionally, it is said that he also knocked a phone from someone’s hand and physically pushed them.
Thomas, who once held the record for most receptions in a single season with an impressive 149 catches in 2019, saw his career take a downward turn following an ankle injury in Week 1 of the 2020 season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was never able to fully recover from this setback, missing the entire 2021 season and only appearing in a limited number of games in the subsequent years.
Despite his setbacks, Thomas is a decorated player with three Pro Bowl selections and two All-Pro nods within his first four seasons in the league. His early success had some believing he was on a trajectory towards the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but his recent off-field issues have undoubtedly tarnished his once-shining reputation.
