In a dominating display of flag football prowess, the United States has once again proven to be the international powerhouse in the sport, all without the involvement of NFL players. The U.S. men’s and women’s flag football teams emerged victorious at the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Flag Football World Championships held in Lahti, Finland.
On Friday, the men’s team outscored Austria by a whopping 53-1 margin, while the women’s team triumphed over Mexico with a score of 31-18. Both teams remained unbeaten throughout the four-day tournament, which saw the participation of 32 men’s teams and 23 women’s teams.
Quarterback Darrell “Housh” Doucette expressed his pride in the team’s exceptional performance, stating, “To me, this is one of the greatest teams the USA has ever had. Defensively we were stout, and we got stops when we needed to set the tone early on. We didn’t have any close games like in previous years, and that shows that this team is special.”
Looking ahead to the 2028 Olympics, it is clear that the competition won’t be close. Whether it’s the Olympic games themselves or a showdown between a team of the best flag football players from the NFL facing off against top non-NFL players, the level of dominance displayed by the U.S. teams at the IFAF World Championships is a strong indicator of things to come. However, it remains to be seen if the NFL owners will allow their players to participate in such competitions.
With their recent success on the international stage, the United States flag football teams have certainly made a statement to the world about their unrivaled skill and talent in the sport.
