In a stunning development, Randy Mueller is making his highly-anticipated return to the New Orleans Saints. The news broke on nola.com, with Jeff Duncan reporting that the Saints have decided to bring back their former General Manager in a full-time advisory role within the team’s front office.
Mueller, who previously held the GM position with the Saints from 2000-2001 and later spent time with the Miami Dolphins from 2005-2007, most recently served as the director of player personnel with the Seattle Sea Dragons. Now, he is reuniting with his longtime friend, current Saints GM Mickey Loomis, to bolster the team’s pro and college scouting departments and contribute to strategic planning efforts.
According to Duncan, Mueller had been offering unofficial advice to the Saints during the NFL draft and even made an appearance at the team’s training camp in Irvine, California, earlier in the month. His expertise and experience will undoubtedly be welcomed additions to the organization.
The addition of Mueller makes him the third former General Manager to join the Saints’ front office, alongside Dave Ziegler and Jeff Ireland. Ziegler, who was brought on as a senior personnel advisor earlier this year, previously held the GM role with the Raiders from 2022-2023. Ireland, currently serving as the Saints’ director of college scouting and assistant GM, had a stint as the Dolphins’ GM from 2008-2013.
With the collective brainpower and experience of Mueller, Ziegler, and Ireland now in place, the Saints are poised to make some major moves both on and off the field. Fans are sure to be eagerly anticipating what this revamped front office can accomplish as they gear up for the upcoming season.
