The gridiron star has failed to bounce back from a shoulder ailment he endured a trio of weeks ago.
Brown, who sustained a shoulder affliction during Kansas City’s inaugural preseason contest in early August, was initially provided a recovery window of 4-6 weeks. Regrettably, his comeback won’t be in time for the Chiefs’ season opener.
“Hollywood won’t be back this week, and we’ll just see how it goes,” Reid informed journalists during a press briefing on Friday, emphasizing that the squad won’t hurry his recuperation.
Brown inked a one-year, $11 million pact with the Chiefs in March, reuniting with the AFC powerhouse in a bid to fortify their receiving corps. The 27-year-old was all set to make a significant impact following two stints with the Arizona Cardinals, but his ailment will postpone his introduction for Kansas City.
The setback stings particularly as the Chiefs clash with Brown’s ex-team, the Ravens, who selected him 25th overall in 2019. Throughout his NFL journey, Brown has been a dependable target, racking up 313 catches for 3,644 yards and 28 touchdowns.
Nonetheless, his 2023 campaign was lackluster, mustering merely 51 receptions for 574 yards and four touchdowns-career lows for the former Oklahoma standout. Despite these hurdles, Reid holds firm faith in Brown’s talents. “The kid’s amazing. His progress has been incredible, but I wouldn’t predict him being there this week,” he remarked.
When the injury was initially substantiated, Mahomes breathed a sigh of relief that it wasn’t anything graver. “It could’ve been worse. It’s a blow to lose someone like Brown, especially with the experience he brings to the table, but we’ve got depth in that position. Hopefully, he’ll be back on the field sooner rather than later,” Mahomes shared.
Reid is bullish in his receiver’s return
While the Chiefs will lament Brown’s expertise and playmaking prowess, they’ll have to lean on the remainder of their talented roster as they strive to protect their Super Bowl title. Fanatics are eagerly anticipating Brown’s arrival, yearning to witness the dynamic receiver back in the thick of it shortly.
