In the aftermath of Super Bowl LVIII defeat, all eyes are on the San Francisco 49ers star as he aims to bounce back and lead his team to victory once again. Despite joining the Jets in 2023, Rodgers is essentially making his debut in green and white after a season-ending injury almost a year ago against the Buffalo Bills. This has left many questioning what level of performance Rodgers will bring to the table, making him a wild card for the upcoming season.
The 49ers’ tight end, who played in their heartbreaking Super Bowl loss in Las Vegas, has some thoughts on Rodgers. He believes that Rodgers’ cool demeanor and avoidance of questions from the media is all just a PR move. In an interview with the Up & Adams Show, Kittle expressed his belief that Rodgers downplays things to limit storylines and distractions for the team.
“I think what he’s doing is just great PR,” Kittle said. “And he downplays it as much as he possibly can to limit the storylines. Just so the Jets can go out there and focus on playing football and beating the 49ers.”
Heading into the 2024 season, Rodgers, now in his fourth decade of life, remains somewhat of an unknown after sitting out the entirety of 2023 with a torn Achilles tendon. However, if he can regain his 2022 form, the Jets could be in for a real treat. During his time with the Green Bay Packers, Rodgers posted impressive numbers, throwing 26 touchdowns from 3695 yards with 350 completions from 542 attempts and only 12 interceptions. This would be a substantial improvement over Zach Wilson and Tim Boyle’s efforts in 2023.
The anticipation for the matchup between the 49ers and the Jets is palpable. The defending NFC Conference Champions will face off against the Jets in Week 1’s Monday Night Football at the Levis Stadium. With Deebo Samuel, Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, and Kittle leading the charge, the 49ers will look to outshine Rodgers and the Jets on the field. The game is set to kick off at 20:20 ET/17:20 PT, so be sure to tune in and catch all the action.
