Alvin Kamara is making headlines once again, and this time it’s not just for his skills on the football field. The star running back for the New Orleans Saints is making moves off the field, and it could have big implications for his future in the Big Easy.
Kamara is in the midst of contract negotiations with the team, and he has made it clear that he wants a long-term deal. Without one, he knows that this could be his final season in New Orleans. With that in mind, reporters in the area couldn’t help but notice when Kamara listed his New Orleans home for sale.
“You looking for a house?” Kamara asked with a sly smile, as reported by Matthew Paras of nola.com. It turns out that his 6,924-square-foot house, built in 2022, is on the market for $2.75 million. Kamara considers himself a “serial entrepreneur” and has investments in various areas, including real estate.
“I wouldn’t say I had an exact plan, but I had plans,” Kamara explained. “I’m pretty intentional when it comes to those moves that I make with real estate. I got other properties around the city, too. So if I sell [the house] today, I’ll have somewhere to be, so I’m good.”
The running back still has two years left on his contract, but things could get complicated in the coming seasons. His 2024 salary cap hit of $18.5 million is the highest on the team, and there is no guaranteed money for 2025, when he carries a $29 million cap hit. The Saints could move on and save $18.9 million in cap space if a new deal isn’t reached.
In fact, back in June, Kamara walked out of the team’s mandatory minicamp to show his frustration with the state of contract talks. Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, he remains focused on the present.
“I feel like there is no time to waste,” Kamara reflected. “Because let’s just say I’m at the halfway point, if I were to play 16 years. Or 10 years, I’m on the back end of my career. I don’t want to waste no time.
“I don’t want to sit here and say, ‘I’ve got time. I’ve got time.’ Ain’t no time, so I’m trying to run it up. I’m trying to do what I can to have the most success. And in this league, we measure success by Super Bowls and playing in February. That’s what I’m trying to get to.”
As Kamara navigates the uncertain waters of contract negotiations and the ever-changing landscape of the NFL, one thing is clear: he’s determined to make the most of his time on and off the field. Whether he ends up staying in New Orleans or moving on to a new team, Kamara is focused on achieving greatness and adding to his already impressive legacy in the league.
