In the illustrious journey of his football career, Brandin Cooks of the Dallas Cowboys has had the privilege of catching passes from some of the NFL’s elite quarterbacks including Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Jared Goff, and more. With such a quarterback pedigree, when a wide receiver like Cooks speaks, the football world listens attentively. And on Wednesday, Cooks came to the defense of his teammate, Dak Prescott, in a passionate and fiery manner.
“It’s blasphemy. It’s unbelievable,” Cooks exclaimed, addressing the criticism aimed at Prescott, as reported by Jon Machota of The Athletic. “The guy shows up every year, year in and year out. Putting up numbers, leading his team. He can’t do it all by himself.”
Prescott, a three-time Pro Bowler and the league leader in touchdown passes in 2023, has faced scrutiny for his lack of playoff success, having only two playoff wins to his name. Cooks, however, believes that the burden of success does not solely fall on Prescott’s shoulders.
“Us players around (Dak) also got to step up. So when we hear that disrespect, I take that personally, and as his teammates, we should take that personally because, at the end of the day, somebody has got to be able to help him get over that hump so we can go win one,” Cooks passionately expressed.
As the Cowboys gear up to kick off their season against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, the spotlight is on Prescott and his team to prove the doubters wrong and make a strong statement on the field. With Cooks rallying behind his quarterback, the Cowboys seem poised for a compelling and competitive season ahead.
