In the world of American football, September has not been kind to Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow. History shows that it is his least productive month on the field. However, this season things are different as Burrow has had a smooth path leading up to the start of the season.
Throughout his career, Burrow has faced injuries and illnesses that have hindered his performance during training camp in the past. This could explain why his numbers are typically lower in the first month of the season. But this year, Burrow is entering uncharted territory with a full camp under his belt.
Despite a right wrist injury that prematurely ended Burrow’s 2023 season, he was still able to participate fully in training camp this year. This injury, though not hindering him in August, prevented him from showcasing areas of growth last season.
“I’m more well equipped to go outside the pocket and make those kinds of plays because I’ve been working really hard on that the last two years,” Burrow shared via the team’s website. “I didn’t quite get to show some of that until the last couple of games that I played last year. But early on, I didn’t really get to show that. That was the biggest emphasis of last offseason for me, and that’s continued into this offseason. So that’s a part of my game that I’ve decided to showcase.”
After missing out on the playoffs last year due to his injury, the Bengals are hopeful that Burrow is ready to shine for more than just 17 games this season. The team is eager to see all the hard work and growth Burrow has put in during the offseason translate into success on the field.
