In a surprising turn of events, Browns left tackle Jedrick Wills made his return to practice on Wednesday, but fans should not get their hopes up to see him start in the upcoming game against Dallas. Wills himself confirmed this, stating, “I’m not starting this week.” The news was reported by Daryl Ruiter of 92.3 The Fan. Wills clarified that he was only participating in individual drills to test out his recovery and get back into the swing of things.
Having undergone MCL surgery recently, Wills’ status for the game was uncertain. Head coach Kevin Stefnaski had hinted at the possibility of Wills making an appearance on the field this week, but it seems that if he does play, it will likely be on a rotational basis.
With Wills potentially sidelined, the spotlight may shift to Jack Conklin, who is also making his comeback from a significant knee surgery. While Conklin has mainly played on the right side throughout his NFL career, he expressed readiness to switch over to the left tackle position if needed. Recalling his time in college when he played on the left side, Conklin noted, “You know, it’s different, but I did it in college. It’s definitely just getting the mentality of mostly just verbiage. The thought of everything one way and it’s just flipping it in your head. So again, maybe it’s just a little second more thought when I hear the play just to make sure I’m thinking of it as out the left side compared to the right.”
The reshuffling of positions was evident as Conklin was listed as limited on Cleveland’s Wednesday injury report. It remains to be seen how the Browns’ offensive line will shape up for the game against Dallas, with uncertainty surrounding Wills’ status and the potential shift for Conklin to the left tackle position. Football fans will have to wait and see how this situation unfolds on game day.
