Renowned musician Jon Bon Jovi, a dear friend of the legendary former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick, has some fascinating insights into the man behind the iconic coaching persona. According to Bon Jovi, there is a whole other side to Belichick that many may not be aware of.
In a recent interview on the Games with Names podcast, Bon Jovi shared, “For those who don’t believe those stories of the warm, wonderful side that I know of him is true. It is true. It’s all true. He’s a lot of fun.” This revelation sheds light on a different aspect of Belichick that fans and critics alike may not have seen before.
But that’s not all – Bon Jovi also disclosed a surprising hidden talent of Belichick’s. “Few people know that he is a closet drummer,” Bon Jovi revealed. “Tico [Torres] gave him some lessons and we bought him a kit. He came on the road with us, especially in Europe where he could come and hang for a week at a time. We took him to Paris. We took him to Italy. We took him all around with us.”
Imagine Belichick, the stoic sideline strategist, now rocking out on stage with Bon Jovi and exploring the music scene in Europe. It’s a side of him that few have had the privilege to witness. “He was just on the plane, but getting to see him now in our environment, and we were playing the same stadiums as the [Rolling] Stones. It was ’95, so we went. I took Bill. The Stones’s head of security, Bob Bender, was a great college football player and Bill saw him and immediately went over to him and said, ‘Great to see you.’ So now Belichick could now feel at home, and he was with us, and he was back stage at the Rolling Stones.”
As Belichick takes a hiatus from coaching in 2024 and delves into his role in the media, the question remains – will the 72-year-old coaching legend return to the sidelines? One thing is clear, Belichick’s multifaceted talents and dynamic personality ensure that he will never be far from the spotlight, whether it’s on the football field or jamming out on drums with Jon Bon Jovi.
