In an exclusive interview on “Up & Adams with Kay Adams,” Rob Gronkowski, former NFL star and current FOX colleague of Tom Brady, shared his thoughts on Brady’s debut as a broadcaster. Gronkowski, who played alongside Brady for 11 seasons, did not hold back in his assessment of the future Hall of Famer’s performance.
“It was definitely a rookie debut,” Gronkowski admitted. “He was like a quarterback that was picked number one overall. All the hype in the world. And he came through. He did come through, but he had a lot of jitters, that’s for sure. Not a lot, but he had some jitters. He made some great plays.”
Despite acknowledging Brady’s nerves and room for improvement, Gronkowski praised his former teammate’s overall performance. “There was some plays that he missed I feel like. He missed some blitzes coming through the gap and he didn’t pick ’em up. So he’s got a lot to learn, but he came out with a win. He had a solid defense with Kevin Burkhardt right there to help him get that victory. So just overall I’m kind of comparing him to a rookie quarterback because he was a rookie in the booth over the last week.”
Gronkowski also expressed confidence in Brady’s ability to continue growing and excelling in his new broadcasting role. “But he has a lot to improve on and he’s just going to keep dominating and getting better every single week.”
Additionally, Gronkowski commended Brady for handling the immense pressure and high expectations that accompanied his debut in the booth. He addressed the idea that some may have wanted Brady to come across as a more relatable, “beer buddy” type of commentator.
Overall, Gronkowski’s insights into Brady’s debut as a broadcaster provide a unique perspective from a former teammate turned colleague. As both individuals continue their careers at FOX, fans can expect to see Brady’s evolution as a broadcaster unfold, with Gronkowski’s support and critique along the way.
