Joey Bosa, the Chargers’ dynamic edge rusher, was seen putting in a limited practice on Wednesday due to a pesky back injury. This setback comes as no surprise to Bosa, who has faced injury woes over the past couple of seasons, managing to play in only 14 games in total. However, the four-time Pro Bowler managed to make a splash in 2021 with an impressive 10.5 sacks to his name.
The injury bug seemed to strike again when Bosa broke his hand during a joint practice with the Rams on August 4th. Despite needing surgery to repair the fracture, Bosa displayed his toughness by suiting up for 40 out of 60 snaps in the season opener. And boy, did he make an impact against the Raiders, tallying seven tackles, a sack, and two quarterback hurries.
With 67 sacks already under his belt, Bosa has proven himself to be a force to be reckoned with on the field. The Chargers will be hoping for a speedy recovery for Bosa as they continue their season.
In other injury news, safety Alohi Gilman and cornerback Ja’sir Taylor were unable to participate in practice due to a knee and fibula injury, respectively. Running back Hassan Haskins, outside linebacker Khalil Mack, receiver Joshua Palmer, and linebacker Denzel Perryman were all limited in practice due to various ailments.
On a more positive note, cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. and cornerback Tarheeb Still were full participants in practice, showing that the Chargers’ secondary may be in good hands despite the injury concerns elsewhere on the team.
It’s a tough time for the Chargers as they navigate through these injuries, but with talented players like Bosa leading the way, there’s still plenty to be optimistic about for the team and their fans.
