The Kansas City Chiefs have been dealt a tough blow as wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown is set to miss a significant portion of the regular season. Brown is being placed on injured reserve due to a shoulder injury that kept him out of Week One action, according to various reports.
Per NFL rules, Brown will have to remain on injured reserve for at least four weeks. However, it appears that his absence will extend beyond that period as he is slated to undergo surgery on the shoulder, which has not shown signs of improvement with time.
Brown, who signed a one-year deal with the Chiefs in March, was expected to be a key playmaker in their offensive scheme. Unfortunately, Kansas City has yet to witness his impact on the field.
In the absence of Brown, the Chiefs will have to rely on their remaining wide receivers to step up. The receiving corps now includes Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, Justin Watson, Skyy Moore, Mecole Hardman, and JuJu Smith-Schuster. Rice had an impressive outing in Week One, hauling in seven catches for 103 yards, while Worthy made a splash with a touchdown reception and a rushing touchdown in his NFL debut.
With Brown sidelined, the pressure will be on Rice and Worthy to continue delivering strong performances. The Chiefs will be counting on their top two receivers to produce big plays and help keep their offense firing on all cylinders. It will be crucial for the rest of the receiving corps to elevate their game in Brown’s absence to ensure that Kansas City’s passing attack remains potent.
