In a highly anticipated event last Sunday, Tom Brady, the legendary quarterback turned broadcaster, took to the Fox airwaves for the first time during the Dallas Cowboys vs. Cleveland Browns game. However, the reviews from fans were less than stellar, with many feeling it was a lackluster start to his broadcasting career.
Despite the lukewarm reception, Brady received messages of support from his fellow broadcasters, including ESPN’s Joe Buck. One message that stood out came from Greg Olsen, the former NFL tight end who had previously held the analyst position on Fox’s No. 1 booth, which Brady now occupies.
There appears to be no animosity between the two former NFL stars, as Olsen expressed his well wishes for Brady’s success this season. “I want him to do well. I want him to succeed,” Olsen conveyed to the New York Post. “I want him to feel I’m a good teammate. It’s no different than if he came into the locker room when I was a player and we happened to play the same position.”
Following the lineup shift, Olsen was moved to the No. 2 booth alongside Joe Davis, while Brady teamed up with Kevin Burkhardt. Despite the change, Olsen remains unfazed about Brady’s impact on his broadcasting career. “My success is not contingent upon Tom,” Olsen reassured. “Tom being really good doesn’t make me less good, and Tom being bad doesn’t make me better. Fox has two top teams, and that’s how I view it. But I’ve talked to Joe about this: I want people to think that Joe and I are the best crew on television. It doesn’t matter that we’re the ‘B’ crew.”
With Brady’s broadcasting journey underway, only time will tell if he can find his stride and win over the fans who were left wanting more after his debut performance.
