The Miami Dolphins quarterback is currently seeking advice from concussion specialists after a scary incident on the field. Concern arose among Dolphins fans as Tagovailoa was surrounded by Miami players and medical staff following a head-to-head collision with Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin.
After having to leave the field for medical attention and undergoing a full evaluation off the stadium premises, fears were confirmed when reports stated that Tagovailoa had in fact suffered a new concussion, leaving his future in the NFL uncertain. Speculation was rampant in the days that followed, with both the player and team staying silent.
However, on Sunday, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport definitively quashed the rumors about Tagovailoa’s future. In a segment for NFL Game Day, Rapoport announced, “Tua Tagovailoa has no plans to retire, sources say,” alleviating concerns about the young quarterback’s career.
Rapoport further explained that Tagovailoa has taken control of his fate by seeking professional help from concussion specialists to aid in his recovery process. ESPN insider Adam Schefter also confirmed that the quarterback has already reached out to specialists and has an upcoming appointment with a neurologist.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Tagovailoa’s return to the field, both Rapoport and Schefter emphasized that there is no specific timeline in place. They affirmed that Tagovailoa will only come back when he and his medical team deem him healthy and prepared for gameplay.
This aligns with Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel’s approach, as he recently stated that he does not want to rush Tagovailoa’s return and put unnecessary pressure on him. McDaniel emphasized the importance of Tagovailoa’s overall health and well-being above all else.
Despite the uncertainty, Tagovailoa has a history of surpassing expectations and making remarkable comebacks. Nevertheless, everyone involved agrees that his health should be the top priority, with the ultimate decision resting in the hands of his medical team.
