The Cowboys’ home opener on Sunday was a disappointing reminder of their last home game of the 2023 season. Just like Green Bay did before, the Saints ran all over the Cowboys, averaging nearly five yards per carry and scoring on their first six possessions in a dominant 44-19 victory.
Quarterback Dak Prescott struggled, throwing multiple interceptions in both losses, drawing eerie parallels between the two games. Despite the tough losses, Prescott remained focused on the team’s Week One win over the Browns and the importance of not getting too high or too low based on one result.
“I mean, I talked about how much meat we left on the bone offensively, and that’s simply why you can’t listen to other people’s opinions and then read what you guys write, respectfully,” Prescott said. “I mean, yeah, y’all may have put this team on a high more than we should have been, and now we just simply got to reset. We’ve got to respond. We’re not going undefeated, hasn’t been done in 50 years. Woo. Surprise. So it’s about getting back to it and finding a way to respond to put the best team on the field next week.”
Their next challenge comes against a winless Ravens team that will be hungry for a victory. The Cowboys will need to be sharper than ever if they want to avoid another disappointing loss at home. Dak Prescott knows the importance of bouncing back and putting forth their best effort in the upcoming game.
The Cowboys’ defense will need to step up after allowing Green Bay and New Orleans to run all over them. Head Coach Mike McCarthy is aware of the shortcomings and is looking for improvements moving forward.
“It’s frustrating to see us struggle like that, especially in front of our home crowd,” McCarthy said. “But we have to learn from our mistakes and come out stronger next week. The Ravens aren’t going to make it easy for us, so we need to be ready for a tough battle.”
It will be a test of character for the Cowboys as they look to bounce back from back-to-back losses at home. They have the talent and the leadership to turn things around, but it will take a collective effort from the whole team to get back on track.
As Prescott put it, “We’ve got to respond. We’re not going undefeated, hasn’t been done in 50 years. Surprise. So it’s about getting back to it and finding a way to respond to put the best team on the field next week.” The challenge is there for the taking, now it’s up to the Cowboys to rise to the occasion.
