Renowned former NFL head coach, Jon Gruden, is eager to make a comeback to coaching after a hiatus. In an exclusive interview with Brandon Marcello of CBS Sports, Gruden expressed his genuine interest in returning to the sidelines, stating, “Yeah, I’m interested in coaching. My dad was a college coach, I was a college coach at Pitt, my wife was a cheerleader at Tennessee when I met her. Hell yeah, I’m interested in coaching. I know I can help a team. I know I can help young players get better, and I know I can hire a good staff, and that’s the only thing I can guarantee. But yeah, I’m very interested in coaching at any level. Period.”
Although Gruden is open to coaching at any level, speculation suggests that the college ranks might be his most probable route back into the game. This comes after the Super Bowl-winning coach was ousted from his head coaching job with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2021 due to controversial anti-LGBTQ remarks and discriminatory emails that emerged from an investigation into Dan Snyder and the Washington Commanders. As a result of these emails coming to light, the Raiders terminated Gruden’s contract, and he has been out of coaching ever since.
In light of his circumstances, Gruden is now willing to consider college coaching opportunities. “If there’s somebody out there that thinks they need a candidate, somebody to come in there, maybe lather it up a little bit, jazz it up a little bit, I’ll be down here in Tampa,” Gruden expressed to Marcello when discussing potential college coaching roles. “I’ll be ready to go if needed.”
With his wealth of coaching experience and a strong desire to make a return to the field, Jon Gruden remains an intriguing figure in the world of football, open to new challenges and opportunities that may come his way.
