Noah Lyles, the reigning champion of the 100-meter dash at the 2024 Summer Olympics, is still in the news, this time for engaging in some friendly banter with Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill about a potential race between the two speedsters.
After his stellar performance at the Olympics, where he won the 100 meters and finished third in the 200, Lyles sat down with ESPN’s Stan Verrett to discuss his recent victory and the possibility of facing off against Hill on the track. Lyles, always one to support his fellow athletes, first addressed Hill’s recent run-in with the law in Miami before delving into some lighthearted trash talk about their running abilities.
“The two scenarios are different. One has to do with being a human and the other one has to do with sports,” Lyles explained. “Yeah, nobody should have to go through what he went through, no matter the circumstances. We’re all human beings and we should be treated as such.”
But when it came to the topic of racing, Lyles didn’t hold back. “But in terms of running a race … look man, you gotta be serious. Everybody wants to jump up to the top … everybody wants to race the ‘fastest man.’ I didn’t grab this title because it’s easy. Or because I went the easy route.”
Verrett even drew a comparison to the video game “Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!,” suggesting that Hill should work his way up through the levels before taking on Lyles in a race. The gold medalist seemed to agree with the sentiment, acknowledging that earning the right to race against him would require some serious dedication and skill.
Towards the end of the conversation, Lyles hinted that if a race were to happen, it would likely be at 60 meters, and that discussions between the two parties were ongoing. The anticipation for a potential showdown between these two speed demons is palpable, as fans eagerly await the opportunity to see who will come out on top in this highly anticipated matchup.
