Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp found himself dealing with an ankle injury in the midst of the team’s disappointing 41-10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals last Sunday. However, despite the setback, the Rams opted against placing Kupp on the Injury Reserve list.
Head coach Sean McVay shed some light on the decision during a press conference on Thursday, elaborating on the uncertainty surrounding Kupp’s potential IR status for the remainder of the season as a result of this injury.
As reported by Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic, Kupp sustained a high-ankle sprain that will require him to wear a cast for the upcoming week before embarking on the rehabilitation process. Fortunately, the injury is not expected to prematurely end Kupp’s season, alleviating concerns about the need for a surgical procedure. The organization remains optimistic about Kupp’s chances of making a swift return to the field.
With Kupp sidestepping the IR designation, the Rams are cautiously optimistic about his anticipated return within a shorter timeframe than initially feared. Nevertheless, the exact timeline for Kupp’s comeback remains uncertain, with McVay labeling it as a “fluid timeline” that hinges on the progression of his recovery.
It appears highly unlikely that Kupp will be suiting up for this Sunday’s crucial NFC West showdown against the San Francisco 49ers. Compounding the absence of Kupp is the loss of Puka Nacua, the team’s other star receiver, who was recently placed on the IR following a knee injury sustained in Week 1. The Rams now face the daunting task of navigating through a formidable divisional matchup with two key offensive playmakers sidelined.
