In a rare moment of tension on the New York Jets’ sidelines, quarterback Aaron Rodgers and coach Robert Saleh had a brief exchange during their game against the New England Patriots at MetLife Stadium. After Breece Hall scored a touchdown to give the Jets a 14–0 lead, Rodgers approached Saleh for what appeared to be a celebratory hug, only to be met with a shove and a glare from the coach as he walked back to the bench.
Speculation ran rampant about potential discord between the star quarterback and his coach. Was there trouble brewing in paradise? Fortunately, Rodgers quickly dispelled any doubts after the game. He explained, “Awkward? No. It wasn’t awkward at all. He’s not a big hugger usually, so I didn’t know he was going for the hug. He likes to do the two-hand chest push as well. But he talks a lot about two-score leads. So, I just gave him a push and said, ‘Two-score lead.’ That’s what happened.”
Saleh also chimed in, clarifying the situation, “Part of the things we’ve been talking about is to just give the defense a two-score lead. It was a two-score lead, so I think he wanted to see something on defense.”
With both Rodgers and Saleh setting the record straight, Jets fans can breathe a sigh of relief. There is no quarterback-coach kerfuffle brewing in the Jets’ locker room. The team remains united and focused on their goals as they continue their journey through the NFL season.
