In a commanding 24-3 victory over the New England Patriots at MetLife Stadium on Thursday Night Football, the New York Jets’ offense, led by quarterback Aaron Rodgers, showcased a dazzling display of skill and precision. Rodgers, known for his exceptional arm strength and talent, threw for 281 yards and two touchdowns, proving once again why he is considered one of the best quarterbacks in the league.
Despite the impressive performance, Rodgers’ connection with 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson has yet to reach its full potential. While Rodgers did manage to connect with Wilson for a touchdown, their chemistry on the field is still a work in progress.
When asked about the slow start with Wilson, Rodgers responded with his trademark wit, making light of the situation by joking about ESPN NFL Draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. “The entire focus of all three defenses we’ve played have been taking Garrett [Wilson] away,” Rodgers quipped. “Mel Kiper’s worst nightmare. A lot of Cover-2. And when there’s times we get one-high, we try to go to him, but a lot of two-high all three games.”
He went on to commend Wilson for his talent and resilience in the face of tough coverage schemes. “They’re shading to him, even with stud corners. [Charvarius] Ward in Week 1, [L’Jarius] Sneed in Week 2 and [Christian] Gonzales in Week 3 now. Not a lot of singles. It’s a tribute to Garrett and his talent.”
Overall, the victory over the Patriots served as a statement game for the Jets’ offense, with Rodgers leading the charge and showing that he is fully capable of guiding his team to success. With more time to build chemistry with Wilson and the rest of the receiving corps, the Jets’ offense is poised to make a strong push for the playoffs in the upcoming weeks.
