In a showdown against the Steelers on Sunday, Justin Herbert and the Chargers faced a sluggish start on offense. However, they quickly found their rhythm and managed to put up the first points of the game.
Herbert connected with wide receiver Quentin Johnston for a spectacular 27-yard touchdown to conclude the Chargers’ third possession of the day. With the extra point, the Chargers surged to a 7-0 lead over the Steelers with less than three minutes remaining in the first half.
Despite failing to pick up a first down on their initial two drives, the Chargers’ offense came alive when it mattered most. Herbert, who had been nursing an ankle injury leading up to the game, showcased resilience by delivering a perfect pass to Johnston for the touchdown. Not to mention, he also completed a 13-yard pass to Ladd McConkey earlier in the same scoring drive.
Johnston’s performance was particularly impressive, as he now boasts three touchdown receptions in the last two games. This is quite a feat considering he only managed to score one touchdown throughout his entire rookie season back in 2023.
“Justin made a great throw and Quentin did a fantastic job of hauling it in for the score. It really ignited our offense and gave us the momentum we needed,” said Chargers head coach in a post-game interview.
All in all, the Chargers’ offense showed resilience and grit as they overcame a slow start to secure a victory over the Steelers, thanks in large part to the impressive connection between Herbert and Johnston. The Chargers will look to build on this success as they continue their journey through the season.
