Heading into the 2024 NFL season, the Pittsburgh Steelers were under intense scrutiny, especially when it came to their quarterback situation. In a bold move during the offseason, the Steelers acquired quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. Coach Mike Tomlin made the decision to name Wilson as QB1, but unfortunately, Wilson has been sidelined with a calf injury, leading Fields to step up and exceed all expectations with a perfect 3-0 record.
Despite the doubters, the Steelers find themselves among the five undefeated teams in the league, creating a buzz around the team and their quarterbacks. Even former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick couldn’t help but praise the Steelers’ quarterback situation, going as far as to declare it the “best” in the NFL, a sentiment that was unimaginable just a month ago.
On the Pat McAfee Show, Belichick shared his thoughts, stating, “Everyone’s worried about the Pittsburgh quarterback situation, they might have the best one in the league. They have an experienced guy coming behind Fields if you need him, but they’re playing well as a team. But, again, a long way to go.”
However, not everyone may agree with Belichick’s assessment. Fields has only thrown two touchdown passes in three weeks, failing to find the end zone in the season opener. Fans are still uncertain about what to expect once Wilson is back leading the team.
Nevertheless, the Steelers, alongside Fields, will have an opportunity to extend their winning streak to 4-0 this Sunday when they face the Indianapolis Colts. The game will undoubtedly be a test for Fields and a chance for the Steelers to solidify their position as a top contender in the league.
