The Green Bay Packers have faced adversity early in the season with the loss of starting quarterback Jordan Love due to a knee injury. However, backup Malik Willis has stepped up in Love’s absence, guiding the team to victory in the games he has started.
Despite their recent success, the Packers are eager to have Love back on the field as soon as possible. Head coach Matt LaFleur emphasized the importance of Love’s return, stating, “I’m sure he’ll be limited. Then work it day-by-day.”
Love’s sprained medial collateral ligament has shown signs of improvement as he participated in practice on a limited basis last week. Although he was initially listed as questionable for the last game, Love ultimately sat out after going through pregame drills.
LaFleur indicated that Love’s recovery process will continue to be monitored closely, with the team taking a cautious approach to ensure his full recovery. “I think anybody that saw what happened to him, that’s a legitimate injury,” LaFleur acknowledged.
Meanwhile, Willis has been a bright spot in Love’s absence, putting up impressive numbers in his recent starts. Against his former team, Willis threw for a career-high 202 yards and a touchdown while also showcasing his rushing ability with 73 yards and another touchdown.
Throughout this process, Love has been a supportive presence for Willis, providing guidance and insight both on and off the field. LaFleur praised Love’s contribution, stating, “Jordan has been awesome. He’s always been a good teammate… I thought throughout the course of the week, helping Malik out, giving him little pointers and coaching points, I think he’s done a phenomenal job.”
As the Packers continue to navigate Love’s injury, the team remains optimistic about his potential return to the field. With Willis holding down the fort in the meantime, the Packers are hopeful that Love will soon reclaim his role as the team’s starting quarterback.
