In the aftermath of their loss to the Vikings, Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans emphasized the need for improvement in Houston. “We have to clean up our pass protection,” Ryans stated, highlighting an area that requires immediate attention.
During the game, the Texans accrued a whopping 11 penalties, not to mention an illegal formation call on left tackle Laremy Tunsil in the second quarter. This penalty followed three consecutive false starts, underscoring the team’s need to focus on more than just blocking.
“We go back to the drawing board and we fix it,” Ryans declared, indicating a commitment to addressing the team’s shortcomings. “We have to line up right and we have to protect as best we can up front. There is five guys just working together, or if it’s six guys, if it is six we all have to work well together, and we have to play relentless. We have to swarm up front, and we have to get the guys blocked.”
Despite their rocky start to the season, the Texans were initially favored to repeat as AFC South champions due to the talent on their roster. The recent struggles have not diminished expectations, but the team will need to elevate their performance in order to achieve their season goals.
