The Washington Commanders have long been a team that failed to excite fans, but that all may be changing with their recent performance on Monday night. Against the struggling Cincinnati Bengals, quarterback Daniels put on a show that left fans and analysts alike in awe.
“Washington has been a speed bump for good teams and little else since winning Super Bowl XXVI in January 1992, but that might be changing if Monday night was any indication,” noted one football pundit.
Daniels, the No. 2 pick in the 2024 NFL draft and reigning Heisman Trophy winner from LSU, had a stellar game. He completed 21-of-23 passes for 254 yards and three touchdowns, showing off his talent both through the air and on the ground. His performance led Washington to a 38–33 upset over the Bengals, a team that was favored to win.
“Finally, there’s hope in Daniels,” remarked a Washington fan after the game.
While Washington’s record stands at 2–1, the team still has a long way to go to prove themselves as a true contender. In Week 2, they relied on seven field goals and an injured opposing kicker to squeeze out a win against the New York Giants. And in Week 1, they were trounced by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who were then demolished by the winless Denver Broncos.
Despite their early struggles, the Commanders are starting to show signs of life. With Daniels leading the charge, fans can finally start to believe that Washington may be on the verge of becoming an exciting team once again.
