In a crucial Thursday night matchup between the New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys, all eyes will be on running back Devin Singletary. With 42 carries for 197 yards and two touchdowns, along with nine catches for 58 yards, Singletary is poised to play a key role in the game.
However, Singletary’s recent struggles with fumbling have raised concerns. Having lost a fumble in each of the past two games, he now has 16 fumbles in his career, the fourth-most among running backs since entering the league in 2019, including seven lost fumbles.
Despite these challenges, Singletary remains confident in his abilities. “I don’t look at myself as a fumbler,” he declared on Tuesday. “It comes with the game. Guys get paid to do this, just like me. You have to have thick skin and you have to be tough mentally, and keep rolling. I definitely don’t want to let my guys down any more.”
Singletary, who has consistently surpassed 800 yards in each of the previous three seasons, has been a reliable replacement for the injured Saquon Barkley. His average of 4.7 yards per carry reflects his talent, but the two recent fumbles have overshadowed his success.
Acknowledging the need for improvement, Singletary emphasized the importance of ball security. “I wouldn’t say it’s bad luck,” he admitted. “Definitely something I have to correct. When I’m running, I have to cover it up in traffic with two hands. I’ve been doing a lot of drill work. Teammates have been helping me out, trying to do punch-outs and stuff even though we are doing walk-throughs. I have to clean that up because we can’t be turning the ball over.”
As the Giants prepare to face the struggling Cowboys defense, all eyes will be on Singletary to deliver a standout performance while addressing his fumble issues. The outcome of the game may very well depend on his ability to secure the football and help lead his team to victory.
