Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt made his triumphant return to the team last week, officially joining the roster and gearing up for his 2024 debut. The former league-leading rusher is back in red and gold, ready to make an impact on the field once again.
Speaking to the media, Hunt expressed his excitement about reuniting with the team that drafted him and seeing familiar faces. “I see a lot of talent around here,” he said during his press conference. “They had a bunch of talent ever since I was here. And I’ve just seen the way Pat [Mahomes] has grown and matured and became the leader of this team. My rookie year, I played with Alex [Smith] and he was like that. I feel like just seeing the player he turned into be, I couldn’t be much happier.”
Hunt’s journey back to Kansas City has been a tumultuous one. After being released in 2018 due to a video showing him engaging in a physical altercation with a woman, he spent the next five seasons playing for the Cleveland Browns. Despite being away from his former teammates, Hunt remained supportive and optimistic. “It was hard, but I had to just think about the good, positive things,” he reflected. “I was so excited for Coach Reid to win multiple Super Bowls. I wanted to be the guy to help him do that, too. I’ve still got a lot of close friends on this team and I couldn’t be more excited for them to see them achieve their goals.”
Now, Hunt has the opportunity to contribute to the Chiefs’ quest for another Super Bowl title. “I mean, that’s been my goal. I feel like any player who steps on a football field wants to get a championship ring,” Hunt said. “And it’ll be a dream come true for me — ever since I was a little kid. I couldn’t be more excited to help these guys defend that title, come back around here, see all these familiar faces and family here.”
Despite undergoing hernia surgery during the offseason, Hunt is feeling healthy and ready to make an impact on the field. He has been getting back into football shape by taking scout-team reps and believes he still has what it takes to be a game-changer for the Chiefs at 29 years old. “I believe I’m very capable of that still,” he affirmed. “I’m excited to go help shock the world and show them I’ve still got it.”
As Hunt prepares to make his much-anticipated return to the field this week, Chiefs fans are eager to see what the talented running back can bring to the team in his second stint with the club. And with Hunt’s determination and positive outlook, there’s no doubt that he’ll be giving it his all to help Kansas City achieve their championship aspirations once again.
