In a disappointing Week 4 loss against the Denver Broncos, the New York Jets’ offense struggled to get going, only managing to put up nine points in a lackluster performance that ended in a 10-9 defeat. Wide receiver Garrett Wilson, who had high hopes going into the game, also had a forgettable outing, catching just five passes on eight targets for 41 yards.
During a recent appearance on ESPN Radio’s Bart and Hahn, Wilson expressed his frustration with the Jets’ offensive approach, criticizing the team’s lack of creativity in their play calling. He lamented, “I don’t think we do a lot of different stuff, to be honest. I watch football on Sundays and I see a lot of teams mix it up and stuff like that. I don’t think we do that. I think we know our identity. It’s just about going out and executing it or figuring out if it’s going to work. I don’t think we’re trying a lot of different things.”
Wilson also highlighted his own limitations within the offense, noting that his route tree has been more restricted this season despite the presence of star quarterback Aaron Rodgers. “I know, personally, my route tree hasn’t been what it has been the last two years as far as the stuff I’ve been running,” he shared.
As the Jets continue to search for answers on offense, Wilson’s comments shed light on the frustrations felt by the team as they aim to turn their season around. With improvements needed on multiple fronts, including play calling and player utilization, it remains to be seen if the Jets can find success moving forward.
