In a highly anticipated game that kicks off the NFL’s London series this year, the Minnesota Vikings and New York Jets are set to face off at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The excitement is palpable as both teams prepare for the overseas showdown.
Head coach Kevin O’Connell shared some insights in a press conference, revealing the team’s schedule adjustments for the week. While sticking to their usual Wednesday routine, the Vikings are making some changes as they fly to England on Thursday, arriving Friday morning. O’Connell emphasized the importance of relying on the team’s health and performance staff to craft the best plan for the unique circumstances.
“I just trust that they tell me what they think is best,” O’Connell remarked. “Then it’s all about the intent of making sure the players know exactly what to expect, what the challenges may be. There’s no smoke and mirrors to this. It’s a difficult week, but it’s a difficult week for both teams with the travel. The best thing you can do is not try to confuse anybody, not try to trick anybody.”
While acknowledging the challenges of playing in London, O’Connell expressed his excitement for the experience. Winning a game there previously, he noted the upcoming bye week and the singular focus on the New York Jets matchup.
“I said yesterday the previous four weeks mean absolutely nothing for the challenge of the New York Jets this week. Which is a great, great challenge between Aaron Rodgers and their defense and just a really good roster, good coaches, and tough schemes to go against,” O’Connell assessed. “We’ve got to have a really good week of prep. It’s been kind of our separator here over the first month. It’s good preparation leading into a lot of confidence to play well.”
With both teams looking to make a statement in this international showdown, the stage is set for a thrilling game in London. Stay tuned for all the action as the Vikings and Jets battle it out across the pond in what promises to be an exciting clash of football titans.
