The Detroit Lions are currently the team to beat in the NFC, solidifying their stance with a commanding 42-29 victory over the previously undefeated Seattle Seahawks on Monday night. The game showcased the Lions’ ability to win in different ways, with their offense stepping up to the plate when needed, despite a shaky performance from their defense.
“We knew this was coming offensively,” remarked Lions coach Dan Campbell post-game. “You can’t worry about this and that. You just work. Every week is going to be different. You find a way to win the one in front of you.”
Quarterback Jared Goff was flawless in the game, completing all 18 of his pass attempts for 292 yards and two touchdowns, and even had a touchdown reception from Amon-Ra St. Brown. Surprisingly, Goff had never achieved a perfect game or caught a touchdown pass in his football career until now.
“I just gave the game ball to somebody else, so I feel awful,” Campbell expressed. “I knew he had played a heck of a game. I did not realize he was perfect.”
The game ball was instead awarded to Jameson Williams for his outstanding performance, particularly his game-changing 70-yard touchdown catch. Campbell highlighted Williams’ crucial blocks throughout the game that often go unnoticed, demonstrating the team’s emphasis on the collective effort rather than individual accolades.
The Lions’ success story under Campbell and general manager Brad Holmes is evident in their first-round draft picks. Penei Sewell and Aidan Hutchinson have quickly become stars, while Williams, initially questioned as a potential bust, has defied expectations with the team’s support and guidance. This nurturing environment has allowed Williams to flourish and contribute significantly to the Lions’ recent victories.
