In a game that was expected to be a high-scoring affair, the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers battled it out in a defensive showdown in the first half. The Cowboys managed to get into Pittsburgh territory on four out of their five drives, but only came away with two field goals from Brandon Aubrey, giving them a slim 6-3 lead at halftime.
Quarterback Dak Prescott had a rough first half, committing two turnovers that hindered the Cowboys’ offensive production. He was strip-sacked by T.J. Watt and Nick Herbig, resulting in a fumble, and later threw an interception to Donte Jackson in the end zone. The interception came on a miscommunication with receiver CeeDee Lamb, as Prescott and Lamb were not on the same page.
Despite the turnovers, Prescott still put up solid numbers in the first half, completing 15-of-20 passes for 188 yards. Lamb was his favorite target, hauling in four catches for 53 yards. Jalen Tolbert also made a big play with a 48-yard reception, finishing the half with two catches for 52 yards.
On the ground, the Cowboys struggled to establish a rushing attack, gaining only 23 yards collectively. Meanwhile, the Steelers offense also had a tough time moving the ball, mustering just 89 total yards in the first half. Their only points came on the opening drive with a 41-yard field goal from Chris Boswell.
Steelers quarterback Justin Fields completed just 4-of-9 passes for 35 yards in the first half, but he did contribute with his legs, rushing for 20 yards on four carries. Running back Najee Harris led the ground game for the Steelers with eight carries for 27 yards and one reception for 15 yards.
