In a devastating blow to the Seattle Seahawks, edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu will be sidelined when they face off against the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday night. The announcement came from head coach Mike Macdonald during his Monday news conference, revealing that Nwosu’s thigh injury, sustained during Sunday’s loss to the Giants, will keep him out of action for at least Week 6.
“We won’t get him back Thursday and then we’ll see here in the next few days if it’s going to be longer than that,” Macdonald expressed to Brady Henderson of ESPN.
Nwosu had already missed the first four games of the season due to an MCL sprain and was only able to see limited action on Sunday, playing 20 defensive snaps and recording three total tackles.
Adding to the Seahawks’ injury woes, defensive tackle Byron Murphy is also unlikely to take the field against San Francisco due to a hamstring issue. Meanwhile, cornerback Riq Woolen (ankle), outside linebacker Boye Mafe (knee), and outside linebacker Derick Hall (foot) are all being closely monitored in the lead-up to the game.
In a tense moment, Macdonald mentioned, “It’s going to come down to the wire right now with Boye.” The Seahawks will have to navigate these setbacks as they prepare to take on their division rivals in a crucial matchup on Thursday night.
