The New York Jets are facing a turbulent start to the 2024 season, currently sitting at 2-3 with an offense that has been sputtering. At the heart of their struggles is veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who has not been performing up to his usual standard.
Rodgers, a four-time NFL MVP, has taken responsibility for the team’s shortcomings, particularly in light of the recent firing of head coach Robert Saleh and the demotion of offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. In a candid moment, Rodgers admitted, “I play better and this doesn’t happen.”
The statistics back up Rodgers’ assessment. So far this season, he has completed just 61% of his passes for 1,093 yards, with seven touchdowns and four interceptions. His passer rating of 81.6 is a career low for a full season, and his QBR of 49.1 ranks him 21st in the league.
The Jets as a whole have been struggling offensively, ranking 27th in total offense with an average of 286.6 yards per game. They are 19th in passing offense, averaging 206.2 yards per game, and dead last in rushing offense with just 80.4 yards per game.
In the midst of this rough stretch, Rodgers is shouldering the blame, acknowledging that he needs to elevate his play in order to turn things around for the Jets. As the team looks to right the ship, all eyes will be on the veteran quarterback to lead the way.
