In a surprising turn of events, All-Pro wide receiver Adams has been placed on the trade block by the Las Vegas Raiders. Speculation has been rampant about where Adams might land, with initial rumors pointing towards the New York Jets as a potential destination. However, the Jets threw a curveball when they fired head coach Robert Saleh, leaving their trade intentions up in the air.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the Jets, interest in Adams has not waned. Pittsburgh Steelers safety DeShon Elliott wasted no time in advocating for his team to acquire Adams. In an interview on The Sick Podcast, Elliott passionately argued for bringing Adams to Pittsburgh, saying, “I’d like him to be a Steeler. That would help us a lot. He’s out there. He wants to go elsewhere. Bring him here. If we need to sell my G-Wagon, we can sell it.”
Adams, who made the move to the Raiders in a blockbuster trade from the Green Bay Packers in 2022, signed a lucrative contract extension shortly after joining the team. Now in the third year of his contract, the 31-year-old receiver is looking for a fresh start, and the Raiders are reportedly open to accommodating his wishes.
According to NFL insider Tony Pauline, the Raiders are seeking a second-round draft pick in exchange for Adams. Pauline also disclosed that four teams are in the running to acquire the star receiver: the New York Jets, Buffalo Bills, Pittsburgh Steelers, and New Orleans Saints.
However, the situations in New York and New Orleans are complicated. The Jets, now under interim coach Jeff Ulbrich following Saleh’s dismissal, have yet to make a decisive move. On the other hand, the Saints are grappling with an injury to quarterback Derek Carr, who suffered an oblique injury in their recent Monday Night Football loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Not everyone is convinced that the Raiders’ asking price for Adams is justified. Former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick expressed doubts on The Pat McAfee Show, questioning whether a second-round pick is too much for Adams. “I’d be surprised if they can get that for him,” Belichick remarked, raising concerns about potential contract negotiations that could follow a trade. “You’ve got to be careful… do you want to end up in the same situation as the Jets with Reddick, where you trade for a player and then can’t get a contract done?”
