In the latest matchup between the Lions and the Cowboys, Detroit emerged victorious with a resounding 47-9 win, avenging their previous heartbreaking defeat against the same team. However, the joyous atmosphere in the Lions’ locker room is likely more subdued and the plane ride home quieter than usual following the game.
The game took a dark turn when star edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson suffered a gruesome lower leg injury in the third quarter. Hutchinson, a frontrunner for the defensive player of the year award, was seen leaving the field with his left leg in an air cast, being carted off for further medical attention.
Despite the somber moment, the Lions put on an offensive clinic, scoring on their first eight possessions against the Cowboys. They outgained their opponents 492 to 251, with impressive touchdown drives and field goal marches that left the Cowboys defense reeling.
Not content with just a dominant performance, the Lions even attempted some trick plays involving their offensive tackles, trying to embarrass the Cowboys further. Although they did lose by one point due to failed two-point conversions, including a controversial ruling on a completed pass to lineman Taylor Decker, the Lions showed no mercy.
Quarterback Jared Goff had a stellar outing, completing 18 of 25 pass attempts for 315 yards and three touchdowns. His favorite targets included Sam LaPorta, Jameson Williams, and Amon-Ra St. Brown, who all made significant contributions to the Lions’ offensive onslaught.
On the defensive side, the Cowboys sorely missed key players like DeMarcus Lawrence, Micah Parsons, and others, resulting in a lackluster performance that allowed the Lions to run up the score. The Cowboys struggled to contain the Lions’ offense and resorted to trying to outscore their opponents, but fell short with only three field goals and five turnovers.
Quarterback Dak Prescott had a rough day, going 17-of-33 for 178 yards and throwing two interceptions to Brian Branch. His backup, Cooper Rush, added to the turnover count with another interception in the end zone. Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb put up a solid performance with seven catches for 89 yards, but it was not enough to overcome the Lions’ dominant display.
