The NFL schedulers have certainly been keeping an eye on the Pittsburgh Steelers as they face off against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week Six and then return home to take on the New York Jets in Week Seven. The Steelers have had their sights set on wide receiver Davante Adams for some time now.
Adams was a part of the Raiders in the lead up to last Sunday’s game, but he was sidelined due to a combination of a trade request and a hamstring injury. However, that trade request was eventually granted, and Adams found himself heading to the Jets on Tuesday. This means that head coach Mike Tomlin and his coaching staff now have to consider the possibility of facing Adams on the field this week.
Tomlin addressed the situation on Tuesday, stating, “I was getting ready for Davante last week. I’m getting ready for Davante this week, but that’s life in the National Football League. I’d imagine his acquisition is going to create some news, not only today, but just as it pertains to this game, and I’m respectful of his talents, but I don’t imagine that his acquisition changes our approach to this game a whole lot. To be quite honest with you, we’re playing an Aaron Rodgers-led group on offense, and that means certain things. When you’ve got a quarterback who’s had the resume that he has and has had the type of success that he’s had, it’s a challenge.”
Meanwhile, Jets interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich weighed in on the situation, stating that it is too early to determine if Adams will be ready to jump right into the Jets’ lineup. It’s hard to imagine that he’ll have a full grasp of the offense if he does end up playing. Nonetheless, Tomlin and the Steelers will be prepared if Adams does indeed get the green light to play.
It will be interesting to see how Adams’ presence on the Jets roster affects the game against the Steelers this week. One thing is for sure, the Steelers will need to be prepared for whatever challenges come their way on the field.
