In Foxborough, Massachusetts, the New England Patriots are evaluating the performance of rookie wide receiver Ja’Lynn Polk. Despite being targeted 23 times this season, Polk has only managed to haul in 10 receptions. Head coach Jerod Mayo is not pleased with Polk’s drop rate and has called for improvement.
“Polk needs to get over this mental hump and eliminate the dropped passes,” Mayo stated during a press conference. The coach clearly expects more from his young receiver.
However, Polk himself has a different perspective on the situation. In an interview with MassLive.com, the rookie confidently declared, “I’m not dealing with any mental problems at all. I believe I have the best hands in the league.”
The wide receiver continued to express his self-assurance, stating, “I’ve got more confidence in myself than anybody has in me.” Despite the criticism, Polk remains focused on his goal of greatness. “I just have the mindset of wanting to be the best. So, keep chasing greatness and being the best that I can be,” he proclaimed.
Polk’s conviction in his abilities is clear, but he will need to back up his words with on-field performance in order to earn the trust and confidence of his coach. Only time will tell if Polk can turn his season around and make a name for himself in the NFL.
