Star pass rusher Haason Reddick made his return to the New York Jets’ training facility on Monday, setting the stage for a potential on-field debut this upcoming Sunday. The Jets and Reddick reached a new one-year contract agreement over the weekend, finally putting an end to his holdout that stemmed from his acquisition via trade from the Philadelphia Eagles earlier in the year. While Reddick did participate in an introductory press conference, he had been noticeably absent from the team during offseason activities and training camp.
The Jets officially removed Reddick from the reserve/did not report list on Monday, granting the team a two-week roster exemption before they are required to activate the veteran player. Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich expressed optimism that Reddick could potentially suit up this weekend against the New England Patriots.
“We got to see what it looks like,” Ulbrich remarked on Reddick’s readiness, as reported by the team’s website. “He’s in great spirits, he says he’s in great shape. Obviously, he’s got to get out there and spend some time with us first for us to make that decision. As he starts to learn our defense and get integrated in what we do, he’s probably going to be more of a pass rusher, but then, in time, he’s a guy that has absolutely the ability to play every down and help us in every way.”
The Jets have been through a series of significant changes in recent weeks, with the firing of head coach Robert Saleh and the acquisition of wide receiver Davante Adams also making waves in the league. Despite these moves not translating into victories for the team, the addition of Reddick provides another potential game-changer as they look to turn their fortunes around on the field.
With a new look and renewed energy, the Jets are poised to make a splash with Reddick joining the mix. Stay tuned as the drama unfolds on the gridiron this weekend.
