San Francisco 49ers star receiver, Deebo Samuel, has been discharged from the hospital on Tuesday following a scare with a pneumonia-like illness. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Samuel played in Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs but was forced to exit early due to difficulty breathing. He was subsequently hospitalized and diagnosed with fluid in his lungs.
The specifics of Samuel’s current health status remain uncertain, but his release from the hospital is definitely a positive development as he works towards full recovery. Coach Kyle Shanahan addressed the media, stating that the team will be closely monitoring Samuel’s progress throughout the week before determining his availability for the upcoming match against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night.
In addition to Samuel’s health scare, the 49ers are contending with a string of other injury woes. Brandon Aiyuk suffered a season-ending knee injury in the same game as Samuel, further depleting the team’s receiving corps. Jauan Jennings has been sidelined since Week 6, Chris Conley sustained an ankle sprain in the most recent game, and star tight end George Kittle is nursing a foot sprain and is listed as day-to-day.
To add to their woes, the 49ers have been without running back Christian McCaffrey for the entire 2024 season as he grapples with Achilles tendinitis. The mounting injuries have tested the team’s depth, but they remain optimistic about overcoming these obstacles as the season progresses.
