In the latest matchup against the Packers, wide receiver Tank Dell was lined up for the Texans, but he seemed to blend into the background with no catches during the 24-22 road loss. This was a first for Dell, who had a game earlier in the season with just one catch for a loss of three yards. These lackluster performances have been part of a slow season start for Dell, with his average yards per catch dropping to 9.7 compared to the over 15 yards per catch during his rookie season.
Perhaps this dip in performance can be attributed to Dell readjusting after a leg injury in 2023 or the addition of Stefon Diggs to the lineup. Despite these challenges, Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans remains confident in Dell’s abilities, stating, “With Tank, he just has to keep going. I believe in Tank, believe he’ll be able to make some big-time explosive plays for us. He just has to keep going and he will do that. I have all the faith in Tank.”
The landscape of the Texans offense saw a shift with Diggs’s arrival, and another adjustment came when Nico Collins landed on injured reserve a few weeks back. With Collins sidelined, there is an opportunity for Dell to step up and take on a larger role in the team. If the Texans can find a way to capitalize on this opportunity in the near future, it could bode well for their offensive strategy moving forward.
