In a crucial game against the Packers, the Houston Texans found themselves shorthanded on the defensive side of the ball. Missing five defensive starters, it was clear that the Texans would be facing an uphill battle.
Linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair and safety Jimmie Ward were notably absent from practice on Wednesday. Al-Shaair was dealing with a knee injury, while Ward was nursing a groin issue. Ward had already missed the past two games, and Al-Shaair had to sit out of the last game as well.
Adding to the Texans’ defensive woes was the absence of Mario Edwards, who was serving a suspension for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy. Edwards had only served one game of his four-game suspension, leaving a hole in the defensive line.
On the offensive side of the ball, receivers Steven Sims and Robert Woods were unable to practice due to injuries. Sims was dealing with a back issue, while Woods had a foot problem that kept him sidelined.
Despite the laundry list of injuries, there were a few silver linings for the Texans. Defensive end Will Anderson, defensive tackle Folorunso Fatukasi, cornerback Kamari Lassiter, linebacker Henry To’oTo’o, and left tackle Laremy Tunsil were all limited in practice. To’oTo’o and Lassiter, who were inactive in Week 7, were showing signs of improvement and could potentially make a return in the upcoming game.
It remains to be seen how the Texans will cope with the absence of key players, but one thing is certain – they will need to dig deep and find a way to overcome the odds in order to secure a victory.
