In a recent episode of the Dudes On Dudes podcast, former Patriots teammates Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman delved into a lively conversation about the talents of both Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady, sparking further discourse among football enthusiasts.
During the podcast, the two friends discussed star tight end Travis Kelce and the high-powered offense of the Chiefs. Gronkowski expressed his admiration for Kelce, even going as far as to say he would love to team up with him if the chance ever presented itself. However, when the focus shifted to quarterbacks, the conversation took an intriguing turn.
Gronkowski posed a question to Edelman, asking him to choose between Mahomes, Brady, or a combination of both playing for their ideal team. After careful consideration, Edelman confidently selected Brady as their preferred quarterback choice. Gronk quickly agreed with the decision, solidifying their stance.
Edelman explained that Mahomes’ playing style, characterized by spontaneity and quick reactions, could be challenging for those accustomed to a more structured system. He described Mahomes’ gameplay as a “scramble drill,” which might pose difficulties for players used to Brady’s precise and methodical approach.
“It’s that scrambled drill like Travis is always open when there’s that second play within the play that Patrick Mahomes create,” Edelman stated. “And they’ve got on such a wavelength, where he’s always in the open position. He knows where to go. Mahomes reads and scans the field better than anyone. He always finds it open and Mahomes always delivers it to him. So it’d be different. It’d be very different.”
The insightful discussion on the podcast provided fans with a unique perspective on the contrasting styles of Mahomes and Brady, offering valuable insights into the dynamics of the game. With Gronkowski and Edelman’s shared admiration for Brady’s approach, it highlighted the importance of quarterbacking skills in shaping a team’s success on the field.
