In a recent development from Washington’s training session on Friday, star quarterback Jayden Daniels was noticeably absent during the media-accessible portion of practice. However, head coach Dan Quinn shed some light on the situation, clarifying that Daniels did take part in certain aspects of the session.
The big question now looming over the Commanders is how Daniels will respond in the next 48 hours leading up to their showdown against Chicago on Sunday at 4:25 ET. Quinn addressed the media in his news conference, stating, “We stayed true to the process for Jayden of what we were going to do from Wednesday to Thursday. And we really wanted to push him today to see where he would be. And let’s see how he responds to that push.”
Despite Daniels likely being listed as limited on Friday’s practice report, there was no mention of his game status. However, it seems probable that he will be labeled as questionable for the upcoming game. Quinn emphasized, “We’re really following that process and we’ll let our eyes decide how he responds over the next 48 hours. That’ll guide us and we’ll make the best decision for him and the team. And if he can’t go, certainly have all the confidence in Marcus [Mariota].”
Following practice, Daniels briefly spoke to reporters, expressing his determination to get back on the field. “I want to play, but it’s not my decision,” Daniels remarked, as reported by Sam Fortier of The Washington Post. He also shared his thoughts on the injury, noting that he believes it won’t be a lingering issue once he fully recovers. However, he is cautious not to exacerbate the situation by playing prematurely.
“I mean, it’s football,” Daniels acknowledged. “At the end of the day, things happen. Sometimes you might have to fight through something.”
As the Commanders await further updates on Daniels’ condition, all eyes will be on how he progresses in the crucial hours leading up to Sunday’s game. Stay tuned for more updates as the situation unfolds.
