In a blockbuster deal, the Pittsburgh Steelers have locked in defensive end Cameron Heyward for another three years with a whopping $45 million contract extension. This agreement, which includes $29 million in fresh funds and $16 million guaranteed, solidifies Heyward’s future with the team through the 2026 season. The icing on the cake? A $15 million signing bonus for the star player.
At 35 years old, Heyward had initially hinted at the possibility of exploring other options next season if a deal couldn’t be reached with the Steelers. However, this new contract paves the way for him to likely finish his NFL career with the team that drafted him back in 2011.
Last season, Heyward had to sit out several games due to a groin injury he sustained early on. Nonetheless, the six-time Pro Bowler made his mark by starting 11 games and earning another nod in the Pro Bowl in 2022. It’s clear that Heyward’s impact on the field is undeniable.
In a further display of his character and leadership, Heyward was honored with the prestigious Walter Payton Man of the Year Award back in February 2024. This recognition means that he will proudly display the Walter Payton patch during the upcoming season, signifying his off-field contributions.
Fans can catch Heyward in action as he kicks off his 14th NFL season on Sunday, Sept. 8, when the Steelers take on the Atlanta Falcons at 1 p.m. ET. With Heyward locked in for the foreseeable future, the Steelers can look forward to having a stalwart presence on their defensive line for years to come.
