The Indianapolis Colts made a roster move on Tuesday, announcing the signing of cornerback Chris Lammons to the 53-player roster from the practice squad. This move came after cornerback JuJu Brents was placed on injured reserve due to a knee injury that will sideline him until at least late in the season.
Lammons had previously been elevated from the practice squad for the season opener against the Texans. The 26-year-old originally joined the Colts as a free agent last summer and saw action in four games last season, recording six tackles in the process.
With a career that has spanned 47 games and included stops with the Chiefs, Dolphins, Saints, and Falcons, Lammons brings a wealth of experience to the Colts. In his time in the NFL, he has accumulated 22 tackles, four passes defensed, one interception, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and 10 special teams stops.
Head coach Frank Reich expressed his confidence in Lammons, stating, “Chris has shown that he can make plays on both defense and special teams. We’re excited to see what he can bring to the team moving forward.”
Defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus also praised Lammons’ versatility, remarking, “Chris has the ability to line up at multiple positions in the secondary, which gives us flexibility in our defensive schemes.”
For Lammons, the opportunity to contribute on both defense and special teams is one that he relishes. In a statement, he said, “I’m grateful for the chance to showcase my skills and help the team in any way I can. I’m looking forward to making the most of this opportunity with the Colts.”
As the Colts gear up for the remainder of the season, Lammons’ addition to the roster provides a boost to the team’s depth in the secondary. With his experience and playmaking ability, Lammons is poised to make an impact in Indianapolis and contribute to the team’s success on both sides of the ball.
