In a devastating blow to the Kansas City Chiefs, star running back Isiah Pacheco will be sidelined for six to eight weeks after fracturing his fibula in the team’s recent victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2.
With Pacheco out of commission, the Chiefs are turning to a familiar face to help fill the void in their backfield. Reports indicate that the team is bringing back veteran running back Kareem Hunt, who will join the practice squad.
Hunt, 29, was originally a third-round pick by the Chiefs in 2017, hailing from Toledo. During his time in Kansas City, he played in 27 games, amassing 2,151 rushing yards and 25 total touchdowns. Notably, he earned a Pro Bowl selection in his rookie season.
However, Hunt’s tenure with the Chiefs came to an abrupt end in late 2018 following a controversial incident where video footage emerged of him shoving and kicking a woman at a Cleveland hotel. Despite the backlash, he was later picked up by the Cleveland Browns and played for the franchise until 2023. In his most recent season with the Browns, he appeared in 15 games, scoring nine touchdowns and rushing for 411 yards on 135 carries.
After a successful visit to the Chiefs’ facility, Hunt is now set to rejoin the team, providing depth and experience in the running back position. It remains to be seen how Hunt will integrate back into the Chiefs’ offense and contribute to their success in Pacheco’s absence.
This reunion with Kareem Hunt adds an intriguing subplot to the Chiefs’ season, as they look to maintain their winning ways despite the loss of one of their key playmakers. Only time will tell how this roster move will impact the team as they continue their quest for another shot at the Super Bowl.
