The Seattle Seahawks find themselves in a bit of a hole against the San Francisco 49ers, with two costly turnovers putting them behind early. Despite this, the Seahawks are fortunate to still be within striking distance, trailing by only two scores.
San Francisco currently holds a 13-0 lead, with only six points coming off the turnovers. The lone touchdown of the game so far was a 76-yard catch-and-run by Deebo Samuel, who has been a standout performer with two catches for 87 yards.
The Seahawks had a promising drive stall out at the San Francisco 25-yard line, as Malik Mustapha intercepted Geno Smith at the 2-yard line. The 49ers then marched 90 yards down the field in 13 plays before reaching the Seattle 7, but were unable to punch it in for a touchdown.
Interestingly, the 49ers, who led the league in red zone efficiency in 2023, have struggled in the red zone this season. They have only scored nine touchdowns on 23 drives inside the opponents’ 20-yard line, ranking near the bottom along with Miami and New England.
After recovering a fumble by Laviska Shenault Jr. on the ensuing kickoff, the 49ers could only muster a 6-yard drive to set up another field goal by Matthew Wright, who is filling in for the injured Jake Moody. Wright has been solid, connecting on field goals of 25 and 41 yards.
In terms of quarterback play, Brock Purdy has been efficient for the 49ers, completing 4 of 8 passes for 109 yards. On the other hand, Geno Smith has struggled, going 4-for-9 for 53 yards and throwing an interception.
The Seahawks will need to shore up their ball security and find a way to capitalize on their opportunities if they hope to get back in the game against a resilient 49ers team. Stay tuned for more updates as this NFC West showdown unfolds.
