Russell Wilson, the seasoned quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks, has a remarkable track record of never missing a game he was slated to start. Despite serving as a backup only twice in his career, Wilson is gearing up for his 191st NFL game this Sunday against the Raiders. However, contrary to his usual position, Wilson is expected to start the day on the sidelines.
When asked about his role for the upcoming game, Wilson remained tight-lipped, saying, “That’s a good question. I think for me I’m preparing in my mind to be ready to go. That’s kind of my mentality, to help us win, whatever that is.”
Wilson initially secured the starting position with the Pittsburgh Steelers after signing a one-year deal in the offseason. Despite facing competition from Justin Fields, Wilson ultimately lost his starting job due to a calf injury. But after being a full participant in practice and medically cleared to play, Wilson is eager to make his return to the game.
“We all want to play. We all want to be out there. I’ve never been in this place that I’m in, and it’s tough. But at the same time, you know there are better days ahead. There are challenges along the way,” Wilson expressed.
Throughout the first five games of the season, Wilson served as the emergency third quarterback, ready to step in only if Fields and Kyle Allen suffered injuries. However, with a possible promotion to the No. 2 quarterback position this week, Wilson is confident in his abilities to perform at a high level if called upon.
“I feel confident I’ll be ready to play and play at a high level. I think we’re being really smart. This is my first week of really being back out there with the guys and playing, so I feel really confident about that. The ball is spinning. That’s a good thing. I have no doubt in my mind once I step in between the white lines that I’ll be ready to go,” Wilson stated confidently.
As the Seahawks prepare to take on the Raiders, all eyes are on Wilson and whether he will be making a triumphant return to the field. Only time will tell if Wilson’s unwavering determination and preparation will lead to success on game day.
